Moline apartment carport fire destroys several cars, displaces resident

A fire broke out Wednesday afternoon at a Moline apartment carport, leaving several vehicles completely destroyed.

MOLINE, Ill. — A fire at a Moline apartment carport broke out Wednesday afternoon, leaving several vehicles destroyed.

According to a Moline Fire Department news release, firefighters responded to the 2400 block of 41st Street around 2 p.m. and found the fully engulfed carport with several vehicles on fire. 

Officials said the blaze's intense heat damaged nearby structures, including heat, smoke and water damage to two adjacent apartment units. 

One resident has been displaced. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Moline Fire Department's Bureau of Investigations. Multiple agencies, including the Rock Island Fire Department, East Moline Fire Department, and Rock Island Arsenal Fire Department, assisted at the scene. The Moline Second Alarmers offered support with air supply and rehabilitation for firefighters, while Mid American Energy worked to secure the utilities.
