BETTENDORF, Iowa — Part of the Mississippi River Trail in Bettendorf, Iowa, and Riverdale, Iowa, will temporarily close on Monday, Nov. 28, for construction.
The bike and walking path will close from 42nd Street at Duck Creek in Bettendorf to Bellingham Road in Riverdale, according to a statement from both cities. The path will be closed through Dec. 31, 2022.
This construction will allow for MidAmerican Energy crews to work on an infrastructure improvement and utility project in the area.
Leaders with Bettendorf and Riverdale ask trail users to avoid the construction area through the end of the year while the work is completed.
Bikers and pedestrians should find an alternate route during this time. Signs will be up along the path providing trail users with a possible detour option, according to a statement from the two cities.
One possible detour includes walking north along 42nd Street to U.S. Highway 67, or State Street. Walkers and bikers can then head east to South Kensington Street, cross under State Street with the tunnel access and continue east on the north side of State Street.
Trail users should be aware part of the detour on the north side of State Street does not have paved sidewalks.
A map of the proposed detour from Bettendorf and Riverdale is below.
The bike path leading to and from Duck Creek Park in Bettendorf will not be impacted by this construction. The construction only applies to the walking path south of State Street.
