DAVENPORT, Iowa — Officials with the Roosevelt Community Center's Minnie Fridge are reducing the hours visitors can use the fridge due to ongoing issues.
The fridge will be open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Minnie Fridge operates on a "take what you need, leave what you can" basis, but volunteers told News 8 that's become a problem recently. Officials believe someone's been cleaning out the entire fridge while leaving nothing behind for anyone else.
"When people are abusing the honor system, it does no good. Either we get a handle on it, or we shut completely down, and we don't want to do that," fridge volunteer Jodie Walker said.
Officials will reevaluate the Minnie Fridge's hours sometime in June. In the meantime, community members are still able to drop off donations.
