Man found guilty in Macomb house party shooting sentenced to 12 years

Demond Wilson Jr., 26, had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm back on Oct. 18.

MACOMB, Ill. — A man found guilty in a March 2023 shooting near Western Illinois University's campus has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, according to court documents. 

Demond Wilson Jr., 26, was sentenced in a McDonough County courtroom Thursday afternoon. He had previously pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm back on Oct. 18.

The shooting occurred overnight at a house party along N. Johnson Street in Macomb, just blocks away from WIU. 26-year-old German Bathea of Chicago was killed in the shooting with 10 others injured. Neither the shooter nor the victim were WIU students. 

Two days after the shooting, police announced the arrest of another suspect, Donnell Williams, 24, of Macomb. On Wednesday, Jan. 17, the former WIU student pleaded guilty to armed violence in connection to the shooting. He was sentenced to serve 180 days in McDonough County Jail with two years of conditional discharge.
