Man found dead from shooting in downtown Davenport

Police responded to the 100 block of W River Drive around 12:30 a.m. for a call of shots fired with a victim.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Update: Shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, Davenport police officials identified 23-year-old Mason Payne of Moline as the victim in this case.

One man is dead after a shooting in downtown Davenport just after midnight on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Davenport Police, Fire, and Medic EMS responded to the parking lot in the 100 block of W River Drive around 12:24 a.m. for a call of "shots fired with a victim." The location is near the Davenport Skybridge.

When officers arrived, they found an adult male with apparent gunshot wounds who had succumbed to his injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Davenport Police Department at 563-326- 6125, submit an anonymous tip to QC Crime Stoppers, or download the P3 Tips app. 

The incident remains under investigation and the department is not releasing any further information at this time.
