In November of 2022, a Rock Island County judge found Rogers unfit for trial. This ruling was overturned during a status hearing on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2023, per court records.

The 2022 assault left Lind in critical condition. He has since gone back to work on restricted duty and was recently given a Purple Heart Award from the East Moline Police Department.

Lind was presented with the award by Chief Jeff Ramsey for acting "heroically, courageously, and without regard for his own personal safety in a commitment to the protection of our community in East Moline," a Facebook post about the award ceremony reads. The sergeant also received the First Responder Hero Award from Black Hawk College back on Oct. 27.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 22 at 8:30 a.m. Rogers requested a trial by jury during Tuesday's preliminary hearing.
