LOUISA COUNTY, Iowa — A high-speed police pursuit that started in Louisa County and ended with a three-mile foot pursuit of one suspect has led to two arrests.

According to the Louisa County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit began on Highway 61 near Sheriff's Office Road around 9:45 a.m. Monday morning, Jan. 29. The sheriff's office said the suspect's SUV committed multiple infractions before leading officials on a chase exceeding speeds over 100 mph.

Near Newport Junction, the driver attempted to pass on a shoulder before wrecking their vehicle and rolling over. A foot pursuit ensued in which one suspect was quickly apprehended after trying to hide behind a semi.

Officials say the second suspect fled on foot and disappeared in the fog. Numerous law enforcement agencies assisted in searching for the suspect, using K9s and drones to aid the effort.

After four hours and a three-mile search, authorities said they located the suspect at which time they surrendered.

The two suspects have been charged with eluding police, and are being held on outstanding felony warrants.
