RIVERDALE, Iowa — A nonprofit environmental organization is celebrating a major milestone.
Officials with Living Lands & Waters planted their 2 millionth tree on Thursday, May 2. The landmark tree was planted at Arconic in Riverdale, IA. The plantings are part of the organization's efforts to reduce habitat loss and declines in tree diversity, and the project dates back to 2007. The initial goal was to hit 1 million trees, and officials reflected on how far they'd come since then.
"At the million trees planting, I was like, 'Wow, another million trees. That's our goal.' I'm thinking about it again today. But now it's just like the sky's the limit," Living Lands & Waters Vice President Dan Breidenstein said. "Momentum is rolling and change is happening and it's going to be kind of hard to stop at this point."
