ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Rock Island City Council may be getting a new member soon.
On Friday, Feb. 23, Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms announced that Kevin Maynard was nominated to fill the council's third ward seat, which was vacated after former alderwoman Judith Gilbert retired in January.
Maynard currently serves as the executive director of Quad City Arts in Rock Island, where he lives with his wife Lily Blouin. Before that, he worked for The Orpheum Theatre in Galesburg.
"When I took my position at Quad City Arts, I could have lived in any of the Quad Cities, but Lily and I focused on and actively chose Rock Island. We love the city's diversity, its history, and can feel the promising future. We love Rock Island, and I look forward to getting to work with my fellow city council members," Maynard said.
Current Rock Island City Council members are expected to vote on Maynard's approval at their meeting on Monday, Feb. 26. If confirmed, Maynard will fill the position until April 2025.
