WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa — A juvenile was arrested Sunday night in West Burlington for having a gun on school property, officials say.
Around 6:15 p.m. May 12, the West Burlington Police Department received a call about two males walking near Leffler Street with what appeared to be a gun in one of their waistbands. According to a press release sent Friday, officers searched the area and located the individuals on West Burlington Elementary School property.
Officials say a firearm was recovered from the waistband of one of the juveniles. He was placed under arrest and transferred to a juvenile detention facility. As of Friday, May 17, the suspect is currently being held awaiting charges through adult court. He faces possession of a firearm on school grounds, a class D felony.
