Jordan Spieth, the leader after Round Three of the John Deere Classic and the 2013 champion has regained his title with a win at the 2015 tournament.
It was a hard-fought win for Spieth. Spieth finished the tournament at -20, as well as Tom Gillis. The two went into a playoff round, playing Hole 18 again. When both golfers made par, they went back to the tee to do it all over again. This time, Spieth prevailed.
On Sunday, Spieth teed off with a 2-shot lead at -17. Danny Lee from New Zealand followed close behind at -15. But Spieth's lead didn't last.
Spieth, the reigning Masters and U.S. Open Champion bogeyed on Hole 1, and shot an even par 35 on the front nine.
While Spieth made his way around TPC Deere Run, several other golfers in the field made moves up on the leaderboard, including Gillis, Zach Johnson, Chris Stroud, and Johnson Wagner. Gillis eventually made his way to the top of the leaderboard, untouchable.
Gillis had some great shots like a birdie on 15 that put him to 21-under par. A bogey on 16, however placed him back at 20-under, allowing Spieth room to catch up.
Spieth continued to surge, birdie after birdie until he reached Gillis' score at the top of the leaderboard.
At the end of the round, Spieth had a chance to end it with a putt for birdie, but missed. It was then a playoff round for the win. Spieth versus Gillis.
Spieth is no stranger to playoff holes at the John Deere Classic- remember his 2013 win? After five playoff rounds with Zach Johnson and David Hearn, Spieth snagged the victory.
Both Gillis and Spieth made par on the first playoff round at 18, so it was 18 again. This time though, Gillis found trouble. A difficult second shot landed in the drink by the green. Spieth was able to wrap up the game at that point, becoming the John Deere Classic champion for the second time in three years.
In his victory speech, he thanked a lot of people who helped him get to where he is.
Spieth also took notice of a certain group of fans.
