MOLINE, Ill. — John Deere is laying off more than 120 employees at its Seeding and Cylinder operations in Moline.
The company confirmed with News 8 that the employees, who are all production workers, will be placed on indefinite layoff effective June 28. Employees were informed of the layoffs on Wednesday, June 5.
In a statement, Deere said, "Each John Deere factory balances the size of its production workforce with the needs of the individual factory to optimize the workforce at each facility."
Seeding and Cylinder has about 890 total employees with about 690 of them working in production and maintenance jobs. 34 production employees were laid off at Moline Cylinder Works in May.
On Tuesday, Deere confirmed that it is planning to move some of its Dubuque operations to a new facility in Mexico that will be operational by 2026.
Last month, around 200 John Deere Waterloo Works production employees were informed that they were being laid off after 308 were laid off in late April at the same location. In addition, John Deere recently laid off 150 employees at its Ankeny plant.
Over 200 production employees were laid off at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline in October 2023.
