DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has stocked a Davenport lake with a fresh population of trout.
The Iowa DNR stocked Lake of the Hills at West Lake Park Wednesday morning with 1,800 rainbow trout. The trout stocking was originally scheduled for Friday, March 22, but was moved due to Friday's forecast of colder-than-expected temperatures.
A DNR fisheries management technician said their goal is to get people, including children, hooked on the sport with the colorful and easy-to-catch trout.
The DNR also stocked East Lake Park Pond in Mount Pleasant and Wilson Lake in Fort Madison on Wednesday.
2,000 rainbow trout were injected into Lake of the Hills on Oct. 21, 2023. The Iowa DNR stocks more than 300,000 catchable-sized rainbow trout in 50 northeast Iowa streams each year.
