EARLVILLE, Iowa — Officials in Iowa say that the driver of a vehicle that crashed with a semi-truck in eastern Iowa and killed all three of the vehicle's occupants was shot before the crash occurred.
On Oct. 13, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 20 near mile marker 287 in Delaware County, Iowa, near Earlville. Officials said the vehicle crossed the median and drove in the westbound lanes for one mile before crashing head-on with a semi-truck, leading both vehicles to become engulfed in flames.
All three men inside the vehicle were killed in the crash. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries.
On Wednesday, officials identified the deceased occupants of the vehicle as 50-year-old Tijuan Devell White, 21-year-old Tyrese Devell Johnson and 38-year-old Augustine T. Monboe. All three men were from the Minneapolis metro.
Officials say that an investigation determined that White had sustained a gunshot wound before the crash. There was no evidence to suggest that the gunshot came from outside the vehicle. The manner of death of the three deceased remains undetermined due to extensive fire damage.
The investigation remains ongoing by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner.
