ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Crews from Rock Island will be draining the Augustana College Slough on Nov. 11 to relocate a primary water line, making future repairs easier and preventing flooding.
That primary water line is currently under the Slough. The pipe burst in 2017, causing flooding on campus that damaged five buildings and opened up a sinkhole. The water line will be placed under the Slough Path in January.
The path will remain open for campus and community use through the fall semester, though the Slough will be drained until the project is completed in February.
Before the Slough is drained, Augustana students and Quad Cities residents are invited to participate in the Slough photo contest. Five photos will be displayed on Augustana's website, and their photographers will win gift cards.
