Bettendorf officials cut ribbon on new playground at Meier Park

The playground was installed over the summer and cost approximately $260,000.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The new play structure at Bettendorf's Meier Park installed over the summer was opened for play Friday, Oct. 27 at 10 a.m. with a ribbon cutting and community celebration.

The celebration will continue Sunday with the Meier Park Neighborhood hosting a "Party in the Park" from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Both events are open to the public.

Installed by ABCreative, the new play structure accommodates children with a range of ages and abilities, including:

  • A playset for 2 to 5-year-olds
  • A playset for 5 to 12-year-olds
  • A spinner
  • A merry-go-round
  • Six swings, including two accessible swings

"It was an old dump site years and years and years ago, and now obviously, it's kind of a transition. We do have a baseball field, the new hard surface court that turned out outstanding, and then the playground is just spot-on. It's just going to be a great asset for years to come for the city," Jason Manfull with Bettendorf Public Works said.

Everything was installed on synthetic turf within new concrete edging. The $260,000 play structure was funded by the city's Community Improvement Program.
