DAVENPORT, Iowa — Davenport City Council voted Wednesday evening to move forward with a multi-million dollar project that would add a new riverfront park.
The estimated $24 million Main Street Landing project would re-develop the area near the SkyBridge. It would include a new pedestrian bridge, playground and multi-use space that could be turned into an ice rink in the winter.
Residents expressed concerns during Wednesday's meeting about the cost of upkeep, especially since the park would sit in an area known to flood. Assistant Public Works Director Clay Merritt addressed these concerns and said that parts of the park with more infrastructure would be elevated to mitigate flood risk, such as the Adventure Play area which can be seen in the renderings below.
Funding for the project comes from a state Destination Iowa grant, ARPA and CP mitigation funding through the City, the Regional Development Authority and Scott County Regional Authority. You can find Wednesday night's entire City Council meeting and its public discussion on the project here.
