Rock Island park receiving DNR funding for a new walking trail

The $44,800 in funding is part of more than $3.7 million given to 19 Illinois communities for outdoor recreation.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island will be receiving nearly $45,000 from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to fund a new walking trail in Hodge Park.

The funding comes from more than $3.7 million awarded to 19 Illinois communities recommended by the Illinois Greenways and Trails Council, a group overseen by the IDNR. Funding will be used to improve trails and outdoor recreational facilities.

“We are most appreciative of the grant support for the trail at Hodge Park in Rock Island,” Rock Island Parks and Recreation Executive Director John Gripp said in a press release. “The trail will be located in an area that does not have trails and will be appreciated and used often by the community.”
