Illinois State Police car struck on highway in Rock Island County

The ISP trooper wasn't injured in the accident.

ROCK ISLAND COUNTY, Ill. — An Illinois State Police officer's car was struck on Interstate 280 by a driver who allegedly failed to follow the state's Move Over Law.

According to ISP, a trooper was parked on the right shoulder of I-280 eastbound with the car's emergency lights on shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13. Officials say the trooper was assisting a stopped driver. While still sitting inside the car, it was allegedly sideswiped by a truck-tractor semi-trailer. After the crash, the truck continued driving until pulled over by the trooper, whose car was still able to be driven following the collision. The trooper also wasn't injured in the crash.

The truck-tractor driver was cited for violating the Move Over Law by Failing to Yield to a Stationary Emergency Vehicle.

ISP officials said officers have dealt with 11 Move Over Law-related crashes in 2024 so far, compared to 21 in 2023 and 23 in 2022.
