IL DOT hiring for more than 70 jobs

Most of the openings are in construction and maintenance, but there are also engineering, design and office roles.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Transportation is looking to fill more than 70 positions across the state.

Most of the jobs are in construction and road maintenance, but there's also openings in engineering, design and office roles.

On Tuesday, June 11, IDOT held a job fair at the Rock Island Holiday Inn, offering 18 positions in the Quad Cities area. IDOT says IL Gov. J.B. Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois plan, which puts money into state roads and infrastructure, means more opportunities for them.

"That not only correlates with projects in the field, but also the need for new people in design, all aspects, operations, maintenance," District #2 Construction Engineer Matt Hardt said.

Hardt added that several big projects are in the works for the Quad Cities area.

"We have the I-80 bridge over the Mississippi, that'll be coming up a few years down the road," Hardt said.

Despite those projects still being a few years away, IDOT said there's always road maintenance that needs to get done, especially during the summer.

"These jobs are posted now, so they just would interview and start definitely before the summer's over," Recruitment Section Manager Aisha Price said.

Price added that an IDOT job has some benefits being a government position.

"Private sector you tend to work over 40 hours a week. Us is 37.5 hours, weekends off," she said.

While IDOT's main office in our district is in Dixon, the department said most jobs are remote or traveling, with some IDOT employees across multiple fields already living and working in the Quad Cities.

"Whatever your personality, your background, your experience, there's a position for anyone within IDOT," Hardt said.

You can search and apply for IDOT jobs on the IDOT website or send your resume to dot.recruitment@illinois.gov.
