DAVENPORT, Iowa — Hy-Vee is offering free grocery delivery and shuttle rides for community members impacted by the upcoming closure of their Davenport location on Rockingham Road.
The company announced plans to shutter the store earlier in May, and officials wrote in a press release that the store had "been losing significant amounts of money for several years." The move raised concerns from some residents about the possibility of limiting their options for finding groceries. Following meetings with community members, company officials announced plans they said will help ease the transition after the store closes on June 23.
The first is a free grocery delivery service. Residents within a one-mile radius of the Rockingham Road store will be able to receive free delivery on orders $24.95 and higher. This service will be offered until June 23, 2025, and customers can register for the service through Sept. 1 by calling Hy-Vee Customer Care at (800) 772-4098.
Secondly, the company will also provide a free shuttle from the Rockingham Road store to the Hy-Vee on West Locust Street, where pharmacy prescriptions will be transferred. Customers will be able to pick up groceries and their prescriptions. The shuttle will run three days a week for four hours at a time from the week of June 24 through Sept. 1. The hours are:
- Mondays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
In addition to the shuttle and grocery delivery, company officials said they intend to continue offering free pharmacy delivery. Officials also said they aren't putting use restrictions on any of the closing locations and are working with landlords to fill the soon-to-be empty spaces. Finally, the Davenport location will host several food distribution events in July and August in partnership with the River Bend Food Bank and will also offer a mobile food pantry in the store's parking lot twice monthly. The dates for these events will be provided in late June.
