DAVENPORT, Iowa — The Davenport Fire Department responded to an overnight house fire that left the home uninhabitable, officials say.
Shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 13, firefighters responded to the 3000 block of 49th Street after a neighbor called 911 reporting a porch was on fire. The first crew that arrived on scene noticed the fire was starting to spread from the porch to the house, according to a press release.
Officials say the fire on the porch was quickly extinguished and crews checked the inside of the house to ensure all flames were put out. The home's sole occupant was able to escape before crews arrived on scene. Substantial fire, smoke and water damage has left the home uninhabitable for now.
Crews stayed at the scene for around two hours to make sure the fire was completely out. A medic remained on scene until it was out as well. No injuries have been reported, officials say. MidAmerican Energy helped with securing utilities, and the Red Cross has been notified to help the person who lives there.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
