MOLINE, Ill. — Veteran's Day is approaching, and the Quad Cities has numerous events taking place this weekend to recognize current and past military members for their service to our country. Let's take a look at some of the amazing events honoring veterans this weekend.
QC Veteran's Day Events
Rock Island National Cemetery Veteran's Day Ceremony- The Rock Island National Cemetery will have a Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m., at Rock Island National Cemetery, at the main flagpole.
U.S. Army Jazz Band Concert- Join the United States Army Field Band's Jazz Ambassadors in Davenport, Iowa to hear the military's finest practitioners of jazz and swing on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m., for a very special presentation of jazz music titled "The Greatest Generation." This concert is free and open to the public and will take place at the historic Adler Theatre at 136 E 3rd Street in Davenport. For free tickets call 563-326-8555; or anyone can pick up free tickets at the Leisure Travel Office in Building 333 on Rock Island Arsenal.
QC Storm Paint the Ice- Community members joined in painting the names of former and current military members on the ice at Vibrant Arena at THE MARK for Thursday and Fridays' games. Friday is the Salute to Military night. During the game, there will be an enlistment ceremony on the ice welcoming newly enlisted servicemen and women. There will also be shout outs during the game for military heroes.
Bettendorf Veteran's Day Ceremony- Bettendorf will hold a Veteran's Day Ceremony on Friday beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Veteran's Memorial Park, 1645 23rd Street. Alderman Greg Adamson will emcee the event. Mayor Bob Gallagher, the Commander of the VFW Post 9128, the Commander of the American Legion Post 154, and the President of the VFW Chapter 776 will give remarks. The keynote speaker will be Ray Hamilton. Refreshments including coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
16th Annual Veterans’ Day Welcome Home Dance- For all veterans and the general public, November 11, 2022, held at Bally’s Quad Cities in Rock Island, Ill. Tickets are $13 at all Quad Cities Hy-Vee stores in advance or $15 at the door. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Food and beverages available for purchase. Colors presented at 6:45 pm. Live music, "Let’s Dance", presented by the fabulous Tailfins "Get Up and Dance Tribute to Rock & Roll" from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. There will be a silent auction. Come and enjoy an evening of fun, music, and camaraderie with all veterans and friends.
Silvis Veteran's Day Ceremony- The City of Silvis will honor veterans with a celebration ceremony on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Hero Street Memorial Park located at 145 Hero Street Silvis, IL 61282.
Hy-Vee Veterans Day Dine-In Breakfast- Hy-Vee will honor Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, by offering a free breakfast to all veterans and active-duty military members. A buffet-style breakfast will be offered from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Hy-Vee stores. Free donuts and coffee will be offered to all veterans and active-duty military members at all Dollar Fresh Market locations on Nov. 11.
"An Infantryman from Hero Street" Premiere- Emmy® award-winning Quad Cities filmmakers Kelly and Tammy Rundle of Fourth Wall Films will premiere their new documentary “An Infantryman from Hero Street” during Veterans Day weekend, Saturday Nov. 12 on the Putnam Museum’s National Geographic Giant Screen in Davenport, Iowa.
Monmouth College Veteran's Day Ceremony- In addition to showing the film "P.O.W.: Passing on Wisdom" at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in Dahl Chapel and Auditorium, the college will also hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Veterans Memorial Great Room on the main level of the College's Center for Science and Business.
Rock Falls Veterans Day Ceremony- On Friday, November 11, 2022, the Rock Falls American Legion Post 902 will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans Park – 500 5th Avenue in Rock Falls. The program is scheduled to start promptly at 10:30 a.m.
