LEE COUNTY, Illinois — Two people were injured in a head-on collision Friday evening near Dixon, Illinois, with one person needing to be life-flighted for treatment, according to the sheriff's office.

The crash happened on Aug. 16 in the area of Illinois Route 2 and Sink Hollow Road, just northeast of Dixon. Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene around 6:21 p.m. where they found that two vehicles had collided head-on.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles and were transported to a local hospital, according to officials. Bystanders pulled a 48-year-old Rock Falls woman out of her car after it caught fire following the crash. She was later life-flighted to an area hospital for treatment. Officials did not provide an updated condition on either driver.

Officials said a severe storm moving through the area at the time is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash. The Dixon Police Department, the Dixon Rural Fire Department, the Dixon City Fire Department and Advance EMS Ambulance Services assisted the sheriff's office.
