ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Friday, Aug. 23 marked the eight-year anniversary of the death of De'Mar Bester, who was shot and killed in 2016.
On Saturday, De'Mar's mom, Othea Stevenson, organized a memorial service to bring attention to gun violence in the Quad Cities.
The memorial car ride began at the Quad City Botanical Center and ended at Sunset Park.
Police believe the 24-year-old was shot while being robbed on 11th Street. He died at the hospital, and his murder remains unsolved.
Additionally, the family still displays billboards around Rock Island in his honor. His mother told News 8 that his loss continues to be a battle.
"It's never going away. It's never gonna get any easier. We just learn to live with it and move on. We learn to live with it, but every day we just ask God for peace," Othea Stevenson said.
