Greg Marty named new Rock Island Deputy Fire Chief

Marty replaced former Assistant Fire Chief Terry Smith, who retired on July 17.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Editor's Note: The video above discusses the former assistant fire chief Terry Smith.

The Rock Island Fire Department has a new Deputy Fire Chief.

Greg Marty was appointed to the position on Wednesday, July 17, and he is replacing former Assistant Fire Chief Terry Smith following his retirement.

“Fire Marshal Marty has demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership throughout his career, and his promotion reflects his commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. We look forward to his continued contributions in his new role as deputy fire chief," Rock Island Fire Chief Bob Graff said in a press release.

Marty joined the department in 2001. He later became Rock Island's first certified arson investigator and currently is the director of the Illinois Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators. During his time as fire marshal, Rock Island was awarded the Fire-Star Fire Safe Community Designation. 

"It is both a privilege and a profound responsibility to serve as the deputy fire chief of the Rock Island Fire Department,” Marty said. “Ensuring the safety and well-being of every citizen and every member of the Rock Island Fire Department shall always be our highest priority."
