Great River Brewery reopening years after 2019 flood forced it to close

The Davenport business plans on bringing back its classic brews while offering new drinks and food.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport brewery is reopening its doors years after the 2019 flood forced it to close.

Great River Brewery is holding a grand reopening on June 7. The business has a variety of local drinks and new food to offer, and plans to eventually bring back some of its classic brews while developing new ones.

"We want to have a rotating menu of beers to keep people wondering what's coming next," General Manager Tyler Peterson said.

Owner Scott Florence said it's taken five years to reopen due to remodeling, changes in ownership and securing the money to restart the business.

"There's a lot of equipment that got washed away," he explained.

While they plan to try out new drinks and food, Florence said the important part is bringing back a main fixture of downtown.

"There was nothing else down here when Great River Brewery first opened, so it attracted a lot of people from all walks of life. So there's a sense of we want to bring that back," he said.

"There's a lot of new developments in this area too, so there's more potential for people to come and enjoy the things we offer," Peterson said.

The brewery's ribbon cutting is on June 7 at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 4 p.m. and live music at 5 p.m.
