MUSCATINE, Iowa — Muscatine music lovers have the chance to enjoy the sounds of Creole music this summer, and even better, that opportunity is completely free.
Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience will visit Muscatine on Friday, June 7. The famed performers will first host an educational program on "Creole for Kidz" at the Musser Public Library and HNI Community Center at 1:30 p.m. The band will then perform a public concert at the old barn in Discovery Park later that same day, at 7 p.m. Both events are free to attend, but concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. Tours of the historic barn will be available, and the Food Truck Emporium will have food available for hungry concert-goers.
“Performers of Simien’s caliber only pass through Muscatine every so often, and we hope the area residents will take full advantage of this exceptional performance. Anyone with kids will also want to participate in the afternoon session. That these experiences are free and accessible to all make Muscatine such an amazing place," Muscatine Art Center Director Melanie Alexander said.
Simien is a two-time Grammy award winner who was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2009 Disney movie "The Princess and the Frog." The Musser Public Library will host a free screening of the film on Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m.
