ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Over 50 golfers took to the tee box amidst steady flurries to combat homelessness in the Quad Cities.
The first ever Chili Dipper Classic teed off at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Part of the money raised goes to benefit Christian Care homeless shelter in Rock Island.
"I think people are just excited to be able to get out, do something in the middle of the winter," Todd Winter, tournament organizer and Rock Island Public Works assistant director said.
Winter also said another goal of the event is to get more people interested in golf.
"People are kind of figuring out their strategy, what club they're going to use, making sure they have a red or an orange or yellow ball that they can see in the snow," Winter said. "But other than that, I think they're just here to have have a good time."
Organizers also took winter clothing donations that will also go to support Christian Care.
