When you take the winding road that leads to Chapel Hill Golf Course in Princeton, Illinois, the first thing you notice is its Clubhouse.
"It's a mirror image of the one at Augusta, Georgia which is where the Masters is played every year," says Owner, Dave Husemann. "It was built back in 1904. There was a railroad stop along the inner urban railroad, which ran from Princeton all the way to Joliet, Illinois. There's a swing bridge in the back that's about 115 years old, which brought people off the railroad into the Clubhouse."
It's the backdrop to a unique golf course that's spread out over 270 acres.
"The holes are set by themselves," explains Husemann. "With some of the newer courses, you just run holes back to back. This is spread out and is very unique with lots of old trees."
Husemann says Chapel Hill was originally 9 holes, but 9 more holes were added in the mid 1990s. He says there are two holes on that back 9 - #6 and #7 - that are known for being challenging.
"They're cut back through the trees and that's part of the newer part of the golf course," he says.
Still, Husemann says Chapel Hill is open to all golfers of all skill levels from all areas. They have visitors from the Quad Cities, Peoria, and the Chicago Suburbs since it's located right off Interstate 80.
