DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport-based health system has a new name as of Wednesday.

Genesis Health System is now MercyOne Genesis. It comes after the local health system joined MercyOne in March of last year.

MercyOne is headquartered in central Iowa and is part of Trinity Health, one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in the country with 88 hospitals across 25 states. Trinity Health is not related to any Iowa-based entities that currently use the name "Trinity" or "Trinity Health."

The familiar blue Genesis logo will be replaced with a green MercyOne logo with a cross. According to a press release, the cross represents the organizations' backgrounds in faith — as both Genesis and MercyOne were founded by the Sisters of Mercy.

“Today is an important milestone in our integration of Genesis with MercyOne,” Bob Ritz, MercyOne president and CEO, said in the release. “This integration shares a very special legacy. The Genesis West Campus is the site where the Sisters of Mercy established the first Iowa hospital in 1869. One could say this is a reunion of missions. Genesis is a special addition to our MercyOne family, with its quality clinical care and amazing people. Together, we are stronger as we shape a framework to enhance access to personalized, convenient health care across Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.”

All Genesis hospitals, clinics and care sites will adopt the new MercyOne Genesis name. Signage will be replaced at over 150 locations over the next number of months. The name and logo will also start appearing online, in advertisements, on stationary, etc.
