GALVA, Ill. — A man was life-flighted Wednesday afternoon after an "industrial accident" at an ethanol plant in Galva, Illinois, officials said.
According to a press release from the Henry County Office of Emergency Management, a contractor at Big River Resources was using a power tool in an area "thought to be free of ethanol" when residual product ignited, severely burning the man. No other injuries were reported.
The incident was reported to the Henry County Sheriff's 911 Center around 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21. First responders provided "pre-hospital life support" while waiting for the Galva Fire Department to establish a landing zone for the medical helicopter, the release says.
The Galva Fire and Police departments, Stark County Ambulance Service, Bishop Hill Fire District, the Henry County Sheriff's Office, OSF Life Flight and the Henry County Office of Emergency Management all assisted with the incident.
