A 15-year-old Galesburg, Illinois boy died of injuries he suffered when the bicycle he was riding collided with an SUV on Knox Highway near Lake Bracken.
The teen was bicycling side-by-side with another bicyclist, traveling westbound on Knox Highway 26, when the SUV - driven by a 42-year-old man from Tinley Park, Illinois - approached them from behind at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015.
"The (SUV) driver and witnesses reported that, as the SUV moved over to pass the bicyclists, the bicyclist involved swerved suddenly to the left, into the path of the SUV," said a statement from the Knox County Sheriff's Office. "The SUV swerved to avoid the bicyclist, but did crash into the bicyclist."
The teen was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Galesburg, where he was pronounced dead.
There was no indication of any other injuries to others in connection with the crash.
