GALESBURG, Ill. — A man wanted in connection to a July shooting in Galesburg has turned himself in, according to police.
42-year-old James M. Wilson was wanted on attempted murder charges following a shooting on July 6 in the 000 block of Cherry Street. According to Galesburg police, officers responded to the reported shooting around 11:45 p.m. and found a man in the street with a gunshot wound. The man was hospitalized for his injuries and was eventually released.
Late last month, another suspect in the shooting was arrested. 39-year-old Gregory Wallace was arrested on Oct. 29 in Chicago after being apprehended by the Chicago Police Department and an FBI task force. He was then transported back to Knox County and remains in custody on attempted murder and aggravated battery charges.
Under Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act, which is part of the SAFE-T Act, inmates are no longer detained based on their ability to pay a cash bond but rather based on the nature of the crime or their likelihood to re-offend. Galesburg officials said Wallace was released from custody before his trial.
