GALESBURG, Ill. — A Galesburg resident found an unusual — and potentially explosive — surprise waiting in their backyard.
On Monday, Oct. 23, members of the Galesburg police department responded to a call from a resident reporting they'd found a half-buried mortar round in their backyard. The Illinois State Police bomb squad was called to the scene, and members were able to successfully dispose of the device.
In a Facebook post, Galesburg police encouraged community members to speak up whenever they see something out of the ordinary.
