7 paratransit vehicles coming to Galesburg, courtesy of the Illinois Department of Transportation

113 communities across the state are also getting additional vehicles.

GALESBURG, Ill. — The City of Galesburg is getting some additions to its fleet of vehicles.

On Friday, Feb. 16, city officials announced that the Illinois Department of Transportation awarded seven new paratransit vehicles to the city through its Consolidated Vehicle Procurement Program. Those vehicles will be used to bolster the city's paratransit program, which helps individuals who aren't able to use usual bus routes to get around.

“GPT staff are thrilled to receive acknowledgement of this award. The last time IDOT released vehicles through this program was in 2019, and I give credit to our drivers and mechanics for their diligent work in keeping our existing fleet in working order to the best of their abilities. The addition of the newer, more reliable paratransit vehicles to our fleet is wonderful news for our organization and community," transit manager Kraig Boynton said.

The vehicles are expected take between six months and two years to deliver. 113 transit providers throughout Illinois will receive vehicles through the CVP.
