GALESBURG, Ill. — A man was escorted out of Galesburg Junior Senior High School Monday morning after gaining entry to the building.
The school's principal released a statement to parents saying a man in his mid-20s attempted to gain access to the school through the main office but was denied. He then walked around the building and was mistakenly let in by a student at a side door. After a couple of minutes, a teacher noticed the man was out of place and had security escort him out
According to Galesburg Community School District Superintendent John Asplund, the man walked down a hallway while talking to people and did not try to harm anyone.
"Nobody was ever in danger. But certainly, we're not minimizing it. It was something that shouldn't have happened. But the staff really did respond accordingly," Asplund said.
Asplund said an adult should have been occupying the door since it was during a passing period and that the district would learn from this incident.
