A fire broke out shortly before 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at 224 North Broad St. in Galesburg, about two blocks north of Public Square. As of 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, crews were still working to suppress the fire.
According to Galesburg fire officials, no one was inside the residence when it caught fire, and no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, fire officials said the house has been determined to be a total loss, with damage estimates reaching more than $52,000. Responders believe the house is at risk of collapsing due to structural damage, and fire crews have recommended an emergency demolition of the property.
