GALESBURG, Ill. — The Galesburg Fire Department received a call Sunday morning for a structure fire at 1277 N. Henderson St.
When crews arrived, they noted smoke from the rear of the building and began spraying the blaze after connecting to a water supply.
Later, when firefighters were able to enter the property, they noticed fire coming through the roof and structural issues with exterior walls. All firemen inside the building were told to evacuate for their safety and continued to extinguish the fire from outside.
Early estimates show about $71,000 in damages were caused to the structure, with extensive damage to the roof.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
