GALESBURG, Ill. — Sitka Seafood Market has been located in Galesburg for over a decade. Throughout its time, the company has seen success and has led to two expansions to its facilities.
CEO Gerardo Canales says he's proud to call Galesburg home.
"We're committed to the city," Canales said. "The company started as a very small, local endeavor here in Galesburg, and to see it what it's become it's incredible and it couldn't have been done without the help of the community."
With its newest expansion, Canales says it will allow his business to ship more products across the United States. They will also have different products and expect the growth to continue.
Executive Director Pam Gaither says Sitka's growth should be viewed as an inspiration for other businesses in the area.
"They're leaving an imprint in our community," Gaither said. "I think it's great and it's harder to do in a larger community. They found the ability to expand easier in a smaller community like Galesburg. It's incredible."
President of Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development Ken Springer says the success of Sitka is the dream of many economic developers and business owners.
"It's really the dream story for economic development companies that start off small... and then eventually have a nationwide presence or even global presence," Springer said. "It's the best case scenario you could hope for (for) the community."
Now with its newly renovated building, it could bring more jobs and tax revenue to the city. Canales says he hopes the growth continues and hopes to create more jobs for locals.
Sitka Seafood Market began its operations back in 2011 in Alaska.
