FORT MADISON, Iowa — A 70-year-old eastern Iowa woman was hit and killed while crossing the street on Friday evening in Fort Madison.
According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, a Toyota Tacome was heading west on Avenue O when the woman crossed the road, failing to yield to traffic, and the driver struck her. It happened just around 6 p.m. in the 5100 block of Avenue O by Fort Colony Restaurant.
ISP said the woman died from her injuries. She has been identified as Nancy Kuhljuergen of Fort Madison.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Fort Madison police, the Lee County Sheriff's Office and Lee County EMS.
