ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms has nominated former City Manager Randy Tweet to fill the vacant third ward seat on city council.

The council will vote to approve or reject Tweet's appointment at their meeting on Monday, Nov. 11. If approved, he will be sworn in on Monday, Nov. 25.

Tweet was first hired by the City in 2000 as an information management project manager before later serving as public works director and city manager. He retired in 2021.

“After thoughtful consideration, I am nominating Randy Tweet to fill the third ward seat,” Thoms said in a press release. “Randy is a dedicated community leader who has a deep understanding of the City’s budget and a clear commitment to serving Rock Island."

Former alderman Kevin Maynard left the third ward seat in late October to take a new job in Florida. A new, full-term council member will be elected during the April 2025 municipal elections.
