Former Freight House Farmers' Market executive director pleads guilty to stealing from organization

Under the agreement, Lorraine Beaman would receive a deferred judgment and supervised probation.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The former executive director of the Freight House Farmers' Market will avoid prison time after pleading guilty to stealing from her former employer.

Davenport police arrested Beaman on Jan. 18, 2023, for stealing a total of $10,455.60 from the market's funds over the course of two years to remodel her personal business, Chill Ice Cream & Eats. She was initially charged with first-degree theft, but on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2024, the Scott County Court accepted a plea agreement where Beaman pled guilty to second-degree theft, a class D felony.

Under the agreement, the state agreed to recommend a deferred judgment and supervised probation for Beaman, and she must also repay the full $10,455.60 she stole to Freight House.

Beaman's sentencing hearing is set for Wednesday, April 10.
