Figge Art Museum's executive director leaving position

Michelle Hargrave's last day will be on Wednesday, April 17.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The executive director of the Figge Art Museum is leaving her position for a new job.

On Thursday, March 14, officials with the Figge announced that Michelle Hargrave will be leaving her role to become the new Executive Director of the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. Hargrave first joined the Figge back in 2019.

Aleeza Singh, president of the Figge Board of Directors, credited Hargrave for guiding the museum through the COVID-19 pandemic, organizing the museum's 15th-anniversary celebration, expanding educational offerings by merging with the Beréskin Art Academy and laying the groundwork for the public light sculpture "Evanescent Field," which is expected to debut in 2025 and will be the largest public artwork in all of Iowa.

“She has truly embodied our mission of bringing art and people together,” Singh said.

Hargrave's last day will be on Wednesday, April 17. Figge officials said they will begin searching for her replacement by the end of March.

"I am proud of our collective achievements, the lasting impact we’ve made, and the strong foundation we've built for the future. I eagerly anticipate celebrating from afar the continued growth and success of the museum and the region," Hargrave said.
