MUSCATINE, Iowa — A fawn who was stranded on a seawall as flood waters rose was rescued by City of Muscatine officials.
Workers at the HNI Corporation spotted the fawn on the seawall at the Muscatine Boat Harbor and Marina on Tuesday, July 2. When members of Muscatine Animal Control and the Muscatine Fire Department responded, they said that just inches of the seawall were still visible, and officials thought the fawn wasn't able to navigate back to the shore.
The Muscatine Fire Department deployed its rescue boat while two other firefighters walked onto the seawall toward the fawn. The animal then jumped into the water and swam to shore, with the boat following along until it climbed onto dry land.
City officials said the fawn ran around downtown Muscatine before ultimately being grabbed by a citizen outside the Little Caesar's on Mulberry Street. Afterward, officials were able to capture the fawn, which was then released back into the wild.
