Early Friday morning accident in Scott County leaves 1 dead

The car was being driven by 30-year-old Blane M. McCabe out of Buffalo who was pronounced deceased at the scene, authorities say.

BLUE GRASS, Iowa — Update Jan. 6: The driver has been identified as 30-year-old Blane M. McCabe of Buffalo by the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team is ongoing.

Original story: One person has died after an early Friday morning crash in Blue Grass, according to a press release from the Scott County Sheriff's Office

Around 6:12 a.m. on Jan. 5, a call came into the Scott Emergency Communications Center regarding a single-vehicle accident near the 11700 block of Coon Hunters Road, a paved two-lane highway north of Buffalo and east of Blue Grass.

After conducting an investigation, authorities determined a white 2018 Nissan Sentra was traveling northbound along the road before sliding off at the beginning of a curve. The vehicle then slid sideways through a ditch, hitting an embankment and going airborne. It finally came to a rest after striking a tree, according to officials.

The accident is still under investigation by the Scott County Sheriff's Office Accident Investigation Team. First responders from the sheriff's office, Buffalo Police Department, Scott Emergency Communications Center, Scott County GIS, Blue Grass Fire Department and the Buffalo Fire Department all assisted with the incident.
