Motorcyclist dead in Galesburg crash

Officials say two motorcyclists were traveling southbound on Cherry Street when they became tangled up, causing one driver to lose control and fall off.

GALESBURG, Illinois — Update: Police have identified the motorcyclist as 31-year-old Nathanial S. Hawk of Monmouth.

Officials say one person is dead after an accident involving two motorcycles in Galesburg on Wednesday, June 19. 

The accident occurred around 7:15 p.m. An initial investigation found that two motorcyclists were traveling southbound on Cherry Street when they became tangled up in the intersection at Simmons Street, just a block away from the town's Public Square. Officials say it caused one of the drivers to lose control and fall off their motorcycle. 

Responding authorities found the motorcyclist lying down in the intersection. According to a Galesburg Police Department news release, the victim was transported to a local hospital, where they later died from their injuries.

The name of the victim has not been released at this time and the matter remains under investigation. No information on the condition of the second motorcyclist was provided.
