DES MOINES COUNTY, Iowa — A Mediapolis woman was killed on Tuesday in a car crash near Middletown, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
A crash report says it happened around 1 p.m. on Oct. 1 along US Highway 34 in Des Moines County. A 2012 Kia Sorento was traveling west when witnesses say they saw the driver stop and start backing up on the highway until reaching a crossover near mile marker 255.
The driver reportedly tried to turn left to head onto the crossover and turned in front of a semitruck traveling west. The semi hit the driver's side door directly, according to the report. ISP said the crossover had a "No U-Turn" sign.
The Kia driver, who has been identified as 87-year-old Marilyn Jean Drebenstedt of Mediapolis, was killed in the collision. ISP says she was wearing a seat belt.
