ELDRIDGE, Iowa — Now former Eldridge Police Chief Joe Sisler and the City of Eldridge have come to an agreement ending Sisler's employment as chief effective Tuesday.
As part of the agreement, Sisler will be paid one lump sum of $90,195 less taxes and other deductions, for a final sum of $47,188. The City of Eldridge "recognizes Sisler as a retired law enforcement officer in good standing."
Sisler's retirement comes amidst a negligence lawsuit filed in August against Sisler, the city and the Eldridge Police Department. The lawsuit is related to a 2021 sexual abuse case in which former Eldridge police officer Andrew Denoyer pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl while on duty. According to court records, the lawsuit was filed by the girl's parents and claims that the defendants were negligent in failing to protect her from Denoyer. The lawsuit is ongoing.
The city has not confirmed the exact circumstances leading up to his retirement.
