EAST MOLINE, Ill — Update Thursday, June 20, 2024: Murder charges filed against 21-year-old Jarquez D. Roberston, of Huntsville, Alabama, have been dropped, according to the Rock Island County State's Attorney Dora Villareal. Upon further investigation, officials say Robertson acted in self-defense in the fatal May 4 shooting. News 8's previous reporting has been updated to reflect this development.

One person is dead after a shooting at the Deerfield Woods Apartments complex in East Moline on Saturday, May 4.
Around 11:45 p.m., East Moline police officers responded to the complex on 51st Avenue for a shots fired report, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, police found 22-year-old Michael J. Robinson, of Davenport, had been shot multiple times and was unresponsive. Police say they began life-saving measures prior to EMS personnel arriving. Robinson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday by Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson.
Police had identified 21-year-old Jarquez D. Roberston, of Huntsville, Alabama, as a suspect. Robertson was initially charged with murder and arrested on May 5, a day after the shooting, but those charges have now been dropped. According to a June 20 press release from the Rock Island County State's Attorney, officials have ruled Robertson acted in self-defense in the shooting.
